How To Make Easy Slipcovers For Sofa

Slipcovers are a great way to protect your furniture from stains, spills, and wear and tear. They can also be used to update the look of your furniture or to match your décor. Making your own slipcovers is a relatively easy project that can be completed in a few hours.

To make a slipcover for your sofa, you will need the following materials:

  • Fabric: You will need enough fabric to cover the entire sofa, including the back, seat, and arms. The amount of fabric you will need will depend on the size of your sofa.
  • Measuring tape
  • Scissors
  • Sewing machine
  • Thread

Once you have gathered your materials, you can begin making your slipcover. The first step is to measure your sofa.

  1. Measure the length of the sofa from arm to arm.
  2. Measure the height of the sofa from the floor to the top of the back.
  3. Measure the depth of the sofa from the front to the back.

Once you have measured your sofa, you can cut the fabric to size. The fabric should be cut to the following dimensions:

  • The length of the sofa plus 4 inches
  • The height of the sofa plus 4 inches
  • The depth of the sofa plus 4 inches

Once you have cut the fabric to size, you can begin sewing the slipcover. The first step is to sew the side seams of the fabric.

  1. Fold the fabric in half lengthwise, right sides together.
  2. Sew the side seams, using a 1/2-inch seam allowance.

Once the side seams are sewn, you can sew the bottom hem of the slipcover.

  1. Fold the bottom edge of the fabric up by 4 inches and press the fold.
  2. Fold the fabric up by another 4 inches and press the fold.
  3. Sew the hem in place, using a 1/2-inch seam allowance.

The next step is to sew the top hem of the slipcover.

  1. Fold the top edge of the fabric down by 4 inches and press the fold.
  2. Fold the fabric down by another 4 inches and press the fold.
  3. Sew the hem in place, using a 1/2-inch seam allowance.

Once the top and bottom hems are sewn, you can sew the back of the slipcover.

  1. Fold the fabric in half widthwise, right sides together.
  2. Sew the back seam, using a 1/2-inch seam allowance.

The last step is to sew the arms of the slipcover.

  1. Fold the fabric in half lengthwise, right sides together.
  2. Sew the arm seams, using a 1/2-inch seam allowance.
  3. Attach the arms to the body of the slipcover, using a 1/2-inch seam allowance.

Once the arms are sewn, your slipcover is complete. You can now put it on your sofa and enjoy the new look.
