How to Build a Jack Knife Sofa

Instructions:
1. Cut the frame pieces. The frame of the sofa will be made from 2x4 lumber. Cut the following pieces:
- 2 pieces 36 inches long (sides)
- 2 pieces 24 inches long (front and back)
- 1 piece 24 inches long (center support)
2. Assemble the frame. Assemble the frame using wood glue and 1 1/4-inch wood screws. First, attach the sides to the front and back pieces, then add the center support.
3. Cut the seat and back pieces. The seat and back of the sofa will be made from 1x4 lumber and 3/4-inch plywood. Cut the following pieces:
- 2 pieces 36 inches long (seat)
- 2 pieces 24 inches long (back)
- 2 pieces 36 inches long x 24 inches wide (plywood for seat)
- 2 pieces 24 inches long x 24 inches wide (plywood for back)
4. Assemble the seat and back. Assemble the seat and back using wood glue and 1 1/4-inch wood screws. First, attach the 1x4 pieces to the plywood, then attach the assembly to the frame.
5. Cut the sides. The sides of the sofa will be made from 1/2-inch plywood. Cut the following pieces:
- 2 pieces 36 inches long x 24 inches wide
6. Attach the sides. Attach the sides to the frame using wood glue and 1 1/4-inch wood screws.
7. Cut the bottom. The bottom of the sofa will be made from 1/4-inch hardboard. Cut the following piece:
- 1 piece 36 inches long x 24 inches wide
8. Attach the bottom. Attach the bottom to the frame using wood glue and 1 1/4-inch wood screws.
9. Upholster the sofa. Upholster the sofa using your chosen fabric, foam, and batting. First, attach the batting to the seat and back using a staple gun. Then, attach the foam to the batting using a staple gun. Finally, attach the fabric to the foam using a upholstery needle.
