How to Cover Your Sofa with Fabric
Covering your sofa with fabric can be a great way to give it a new look or to protect it from wear and tear. It's a relatively easy project that can be completed in a few hours, and it can save you a lot of money compared to buying a new sofa.
Materials you'll need:
- Fabric
- Scissors
- Measuring tape
- Staple gun
- Upholstery tacks (optional)
Instructions:
1. Measure your sofa and cut the fabric to size. Allow for a few inches of extra fabric on all sides so that you have enough to staple or tack it down.
2. Lay the fabric over the sofa and smooth it out. Make sure that it is centered and that the edges are even.
3. Starting at one corner, staple or tack the fabric to the sofa frame. Use a staple gun or upholstery tacks, and space the staples or tacks about 2 inches apart.
4. Continue stapling or tacking the fabric around the entire sofa. Make sure that the fabric is pulled taut so that there are no wrinkles.
5. Once you have stapled or tacked the fabric all the way around, trim any excess fabric.
6. Enjoy your newly upholstered sofa!
Tips:
- When choosing fabric for your sofa, be sure to select a fabric that is durable and easy to clean.
- If you are not confident in your ability to staple or tack the fabric, you can hire an upholsterer to do it for you.
- If you want to give your sofa a more professional look, you can add piping or cording around the edges of the fabric.
